Dear VTA of Santa Clara County... [Aug. 2nd, 2008|04:39 pm]
Transit connections. The implied meaning is step off one form of transit onto another, possibly even timed to minimize a wait, not "walk 1/2 mile from CalTrain up the hill to a bus bench and watch the bus roll by when you're a block away."

That is all,

Sweatily and stenchfully yours,
TarZxf.

I hatez the intar-webz. [Jun. 3rd, 2008|10:40 am]
Was roused at 8:30 by a call from an 800 number, which when answered was an automated Visa Fraud call. Someone swiped my card info and was buying game time at zingo.com or somesuch place.

Called the associated number to ccbill, who processed the charges, and who also voided the transactions. Hit the ATM to cash out then called back visa.

10:03 Visa contacted, card canceled
10:10 Golden1 contacted, card fully canceled, new one sent
10:17 New card PIN'd.

Stupid in-tar-webz.

Long time, no updates... [Apr. 28th, 2008|05:05 pm]
This last weekend was simply amazing:

  • Friday night: Shock Treatment in San Francisco, with Special Guest Gary Shail performing Breaking Out before the movie started. The energy throughout the show was simply amazing, and everyone had a blast. I took 311 pictures, and 2 videos.

  • Saturday Night: Rocky Horror, quite a bit lower key compared to the night before, but still an awesomely fun show (263 photos, no videos).

  • Sunday: Food with terrible service at Pizz'a Chicago (survived!), but on the way there, The San Mateo County Sheriffs Department closed 101 South just four cars in front of me to deal with an apparent kidnapping or something similar. All I was able to see were hands in the air, rotating, then going down, followed by a child(?) being carried to another vehicle. I snapped a picture of the car in question as I rolled slowly past to get back up to freeway speeds.

After food with [info]mitrian, [info]grahamwest, [info]funjon, and [info]kikikimi there was ice cream, where were joined by [info]densaer and [info]kethryvis. Peppermint Stick, FTW!

A giant truck (in fact, it's concave) pulled into the lot and promptly blocked a car into a spot, while we made comments about the size of certain parts of the owner's anatomy (tripod!). Following this, [info]densaer, [info]kethryvis and I went over to [info]kethryvis's place to deal with her dead TiVo. One quick drive swap and 2 clear and deletes later, she can has TiVo again.

After SUCCESS, I hopped on the freeway, and rang up General [info]funjon to see if he'd torn into his car to try and figure out mounting and power spot for his new radio. Went over, assisted in the de-and-re-construction of his car, then headed home.

I need more weekends like that!

Packing, Driving, Family, THINGS [Dec. 20th, 2007|12:40 am]
Packing stuff up tonight, I had to gzip my backpack... I had crammed it full of clothes, and neglected to leave room for the fluffy fleece jacket. I laid the bag on the floor and shoved my foot in to make room. Geek packing at its finest.

Tomorrow, I head direct from work up to Sac/Roseville, then head out Friday morning for L.A. and the annual holiday family get together, punctuated with non-family things too (hiya [info]ladycrim and [info]eorlover).

I'll be online and active for various parts of various days, and I don't care ;)

Enjoy the season.

Fleet Week pics [Dec. 5th, 2007|11:43 am]
This link was on Fark, and is the Saturday portion of the show, and are far better quality than what I was doing on Sunday... (I'd link to my pictures, but the damn router where my server is at is down). Here

While I may lust for a D-series at some point, I think I'll move up to the Canon S5 IS from the current G5 at some point (I dig my flippy screen!)

Quick Update [Dec. 4th, 2007|09:57 am]
Life marches ever onward. Finally got fed up with the iBook's video issues (root cause is a faulty Ball Grid Array that attaches the Video controller) and picked up a shiny MacBook Pro 2.4GHz (SHINY!). Then yesterday in a fit of boredom, I ordered an OLPC, which is destined to arrive sometime next year.

Why an MBP *AND* an OLPC? The MBP for more hearty usage at home (videos, movies, etc) and the OLPC for on the road stuff, plus T-Mobile is giving a free year of HotSpot service with the Give 1 Get 1 OLPC promo (about a $350 value).

"Smooth and Supple" [Oct. 30th, 2007|09:43 pm]
I think that's the best way to describe that earthquake. I thought it was a train roaring by.

My frame of reference is quite out of date; the last earthquake I actually felt was the Whittier Narrows Quake on October 1, 1987. I was 8 at the time, and was in the Sac area on fairly solid granite for Loma Prieta on my 11th birthday. I didn't feel anything of that one.

No damage here, move along.

Many thanks to the well wishers [Oct. 17th, 2007|10:50 pm]
As some has said, I've survived another year of structural integrity. Many thanks to all for the well wishes.

Work was awesome! For lunch, we went to Armadillo Willy's and abused our 15% discount for the week. of the 5 of us, I was the only one that had ever been before (2nd time this week!). Mighty good food as is expected.

After lunch, food coma settled in, and as I watched 9 machines gleefully rsync data, I kept fading and fading. I decided that the machines can manage without me, and bailed early, with my recently acquired $10 machine (There's a mailing list at work to sell/buy things form others, and I snag up good deals ;) ).

Said $10 machine had a few good layers of dust puppies, some approaching crud puppy status. Zipped over to Costco for canned Air, and a few b-day things: Remy X.O. Cognac box with 2 snifters, more pants, and a FasTrak tag for my roommates (Golden Gate is $5 cash, or $4 FasTrak, and they traverse it at least weekly)

Soon after CostCo, my brother called, asking if I was coming up there. I wasn't, as 511.org showed crappy traffic heading out of the Bay Area, but all green heading in. I suggested that I could meet him in Berkeley, which he's think about and call back once he got home.

In between then and the next call, a Blue Ferrari was backing out of a driveway, and narrowing missed my brother. He called back to tell of this, and that he and mom would be heading out to meet up for dinner somewhere. I suggested Emeryville, and they were off.

We met up and went to the Elephant Bar at Bay Street (no [info]noirem at work, must've just missed her), and the service was lousy, and the waitress downright rude at times. Mom had a "special talk" with the manager and things were explained, and we went on our separate ways.

Now, I sit at home, a different home than last year, snifter of cognac in hand, and happy to have friends and family around.

Vento Fixed, lousy illness [Sep. 21st, 2007|04:58 pm]
Ran up to Roseville and Davis last night to fix vento (kernel lines work better with "kernel" at the front and not "modules") and a quick stop in davis to see about picking up the futon frame (won't fit in my Jetta, likely will in the wagon)

This morning I just wasn't feeling so hot and got a work a little bit late, and was then overcome with the urge to run to the toilet and hurl. Luckily that was a false alarm, but I went home anyways, where there were a few non-false alarms.

I feel like hell, but [info]kethryvis and [info]densaer are en route to get me needed supplies so I might return to human the evening...
